Kenny running the drilling rig |
I haven't written in a few weeks due to being very busy at my new job and not much but the usual weekend Weide orchard and garden watering runs. However, the last two weekends we restarted the water well drilling operation. Last weekend I headed home on Saturday for a bowling team home party, but this weekend I camped out.

The title of drilling for inspiration is due to the idea I had of writing a narrative description, almost a short story, of what a day of drilling and visiting the Weide is like. I used my droid to take voice notes of topic ideas for the writing and in the near future will take the time to write the story.

John waving to the neighbors while drilling. |
I took a picture of Kenny drilling then later, when it was my turn, I asked him to snap a shot. Just as he was taking the picture the neighbors drove by and waved, which made fora nice picture.

Omelet under way. |
Saturday I realized that I had forgot to pack the bacon in the cooler. Darn! A bit later I noticed two jalapeno peppers ready for harvest and I had also dug up two small onions. Then inspiration struck! I had packed cheese and eggs, and now I have jalapenos and onions - the makings for an omelet! That night the omelet ingredients were enriched when Kenny chose to not finish the (a bit large) steak. These steak omelets beat plain bacon and eggs by a wonderful long shot.

My bed - Sleeping on hammock under the stars! |
I stopped at REI Friday just to pick up a mosquito net for hammocks because I knew I'd get my first chance to sleep overnight on my hammock. With the hammock stand graciously provided by my friend Stephen, I set up a simple sleeping arrangement. I slept quite well! Once the neighbor's dogs came sniffing around, and once two unknown critters (perhaps racoons) talked to each other near the tree line that runs through the middle of the picture above.
